Leaves turn and fruit ripens; nuts begin to fall and roots are ready for harvest.  Fall is in full swing and it’s time to break out the warm spices and pungent herbs and fire up the smoker.

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER: Nathan Pickard

Nathan Pickard is founder of Restoration Collective restorationcollectivetulsa.org.  In 2006 he moved north of downtown Tulsa into an urban at-risk neighborhood and began seeing the lack of food security.  Initiatives he has helped organize within his neighborhood include a community garden, a seven-layer urban farm on a 2/3 acre site where he lives, a ½ mile long public food forest, a community food tree nursery growing out 500 trees.  He has recently started the Emerson Foundation emersonfoundationtulsa.org which is adding a food forest with a market-farm and native prairies at Oklahoma’s first public Montessori school.  He is currently excited to be working with the University of Notre Dame Graduate School of Architecture with the hopes of incorporating permanent agriculture solutions into designs for new urban mixed-use neighborhoods in the area north of downtown.  He has been a speaker on urban farming and regenerative agriculture at Oklahoma Public Health Association Annual Conference, Oklahoma Food Security Summits, Oklahoma Women in Agriculture and Business Annual Conference, and Fit 2 Learn Annual Conferences.   He also speaks on early retirement and extreme personal finance.
